UN Global Compact

The UN Global Compact is a non-binding initiative launched by the United Nations in 2000 that encourages businesses and organizations to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies and practices. It consists of 10 principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption, and encourages companies to align their strategies and operations with these principles and take actions that advance societal goals.

Science-based Target Initiative

The Science-based Targets initiative is a partnership between several organizations, including the United Nations Global Compact, the World Wildlife Fund, and CDP, that aims to help companies reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Global Tourism Plastics Initiative

The Global Tourism Plastics (UNWTO) Initiative unites the tourism sector behind a common vision to address the root causes of plastic pollution. It enables businesses, governments and other tourism stakeholders to lead by example in the shift towards a circular economy of plastics.

Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism

The Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism unites travel and tourism behind a common set of pathways for climate action, aligning the sector with global commitments and catalysing collaborative solutions to the many challenges facing businesses and destinations globally. The Glasgow Declaration encourages the acceleration of climate action in tourism by securing commitments to reduce emissions in tourism by at least 50% over the next decade and achieve Net Zero as soon as possible before 2050.

Green Deal Anders Verpakt

Green Deal Anders Verpakt was created by the Flemish government in Belgium and signed by more than 80 companies in 2022. They focus on less one-way packaging by avoiding or reusing it and thereby also reducing the environmental impact of the packaged product. By signing the Green Deal Anders Verpakt we commit to working actively on prevention (omission of the packaging, transport in bulk) and packaging reuse.

The Belgian Alliance for Climate Action supports organizations across Belgium to realize their full potential in the strife for a carbon-neutral society. With a firm belief in the power of science, they provide access to a scientifically based method that allows members to reduce carbon emissions effectively.

The Shift

The Shift (www.theshift.be) is the Belgian sustainability community. Their platform of diverse organizations has one common goal: to actively work together towards a more sustainable economy and society. They bring together over 540 companies, NGOs, public and academic institutions and are the national point of contact for the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), CSR Europe and B Corp.

As the leader in sustainable forestry, FSC® is trusted by NGOs, businesses, and consumers worldwide to protect healthy, resilient forests for all, forever.  Today, they’re the leader in sustainable forest management, operating the world’s most rigorous and trusted forest certification system. Since its founding in 2007, EcoVadis has grown to become the world’s largest and most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, creating a global network of more than 100,000+ rated companies. Currently, deSter holds a Silver Rating and is in the 10% of all rated companies. This is a great achievement and a trigger for us to do even better.

Our Product

Creating sustainable products is key for deSter. Our portfolio ranges from food packaging to serviceware to soft goods such as amenity kits and sleepwear. Our aim is become 100% circular and our dedicated R&D team, designers and product managers are constantly looking for ways to improve, create products which are sustainable but do not fail on design or performance.
