Organized by deSter, a leading designer and manufacturer of innovative food packaging and serviceware concepts for the aviation and food service industries, this competition aims to accelerate the shaping of a greener tomorrow. The Challenge

Shifting from single-use packaging to reusable packaging is not only about the product design. It requires a holistic approach with an answer on the collection, reverse logistics, and incentivizing people. We ask you to submit an innovative idea that would answer those requirements for food packaging in one or more of the following segments: events, take-out, home delivery and retail. Every idea is judged on its desirability, feasibility and viability.

We extend a warm invitation to all sustainability enthusiasts, experts, students, and visionary business minds. Whether you are a seasoned professional or an aspiring student, we believe that diverse perspectives foster groundbreaking solutions.

The Grand Finale

On 27th February 2024, deSter will invite those who submitted the top five ideas to our state-of-the-art office in Hoogstraten, Belgium. This exclusive full day event will be an opportunity for the finalists to collaborate with our expert designers, product managers, and engineers. You’ll have access to our resources and expertise throughout the day to further refine, develop and prototype your ideas. In the afternoon, each team will present their polished proposals to a distinguished panel of judges. The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session, providing a platform for constructive feedback, and a closing ceremony.

How to Participate?

Participating in deSter Packathon is simple. Just follow these steps:

1. Form a team: Collaborate with like-minded individuals or participate individually.

2. Define one or more segments:

– Events (festivals, sports, music…)
– Take-out (food trucks, restaurants…)
– Home delivery (DIY meal preparations, prepared meals…)
– Retail

3. Develop your idea that addresses the challenge: Put your creative minds to work and design a comprehensive solution. Remember, your proposal doesn’t have to be fully worked out. The emphasis is on presenting a compelling idea. Every idea is judged on its desirability, feasibility, and viability.

4. Submit your entry: Fill out the contact form below and describe your proposal.

Timeline

Submissions start: 15 September 2023
Submissions end: 26 January 2024
Announcement of shortlisted submissions: 1 February 2024
Grand finale: 27 February 2024 at our design studio in Hoogstraten, Antwerp, Belgium
