Sustainable Flight Challenge: KLM flights on 7th May

Two very special KLM flights took off from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on Saturday 7 May. Flight KL0675 to Edmonton, Canada, and flight KL1713 to Porto, Portugal, have undergone the widest possible array of sustainability measures. Initiated by KLM employees, the Sustainable Flight Challenge will see sixteen SkyTeam Airline Alliance members competing with a view to sharing insight and experience on sustainability, thereby accelerating the drive towards greater sustainability throughout our industry. deSter is one of the partners involved in the Challenge.

As a KLM partner, we are delighted to be able to take part once again in making KLM's inflight equipment more sustainable. The road to more sustainable table service and food packaging is through constant innovation and improvement. An initiative like the Sustainable Flight Challenge gives another boost to test and implement improvements.

René de Groot, COO of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines: “The great thing about the Sustainable Flight Challenge is first and foremost the enthusiasm among staff throughout KLM and the involved partners in putting forward their ideas on how to achieve the most sustainable flight possible. Another positive aspect is that the participating airlines have agreed to share the lessons they have learned, and that our customers as well as engine manufacturers, SAF producers and other partners have been involved. This spirit of cooperation makes greater sustainability possible and feasible.”
